Journey of Souls (2010)

1. Journey of Souls
Music by John Paul Sharp

2. You and I
Music and Lyrics by John Paul Sharp

I had a dream last night, or should I say this morning
I looked for you and I was blinded the fight we have on life
I wouldn’t concede it and neither would you
you finally came and we had a quick embrace
and then you were gone again and I was forced to go away
to find my own journey, to face the day alone
but we’re never alone, are we?
I know I’ll see you again, it’s just –
I know I’ll see you again, it’s just –
I don’t feel bad about you
you don’t feel bad about me

3. Thirty
Music and Lyrics by John Paul Sharp

the hooplah’s over it’s said and done
another year and I’ll be 31

you said I’d be there now
(if you want it you can get it you don’t have to sweat it
you can figure out a way to get it on your own)
said I’d be there by now
(if you want it you can get it you don’t have to sweat it
you can figure out a way to get it on your own)
so what comes next? so what comes next?

and I been thinkin’ about my life
about the tears and blood I’ve shed

you said I’d be there now
(if you want it you can get it you don’t have to sweat it
you can figure out a way to get it on your own)
said I’d be there by now
(if you want it you can get it you don’t have to sweat it
you can figure out a way to get it on your own)
so what comes next? so what comes next?

the hooplah’s over it’s said and done
another year and I’ll be 31

you said I’d be there now
(if you want it you can get it you don’t have to sweat it
you can figure out a way to get it on your own)
said I’d be there by now
(if you want it you can get it you don’t have to sweat it
you can figure out a way to get it on your own)
so what comes next? so what comes next?

you said I’d be there now said I’d be there by now
so what comes next? so what comes next?

4. One Day Older
Music and Lyrics by John Paul Sharp

one more day of getting dressed, obsessed, upset again

whatever – i’ll get it together, like I always do
i’ll start with a shirt, then move to my drawers
and then to my pants – but i’m wearing sandals today

i’m one day older, don’t you think?
it certainly feels that way.
I go on each day, gettin’ older and older and older and
there’s nothing I can do

what else is there? where should I go?

whatever – i’ll get it together, like I always do
i’ll start with a shirt, then move to my drawers
and then to my pants – but i’m wearing sandals today

i’m one day older, don’t you think?
it certainly feels that way.
I go on each day, gettin’ older and older and older and
there’s nothing I can do

whatever – i’ll get it together, like I always do
i’ll start with a shirt, then move to my drawers
and then to my pants – but i’m wearing sandals today

i’m one day older, don’t you think?
it certainly feels that way.
I go on each day, gettin’ older and older and older and
there’s nothing I can do

6. Stricken
Music and Lyrics by John Paul Sharp

time does not bring relief you have all lied
who told me time would ease me of my pain?
I miss him in the weeping of the rain
I want him at the shrinking of the tide
the old snows melt from ev’ry mountain side
and last year’s leaves are smoke in every lane
but last year’s bitter loving must remain
heaped on my heart and my old thoughts abide
there are a hundred places where I fear to go
so with his memory they bring
and entering with relief
some quiet place where never fell his foot or shown his face
I say, there is no memory of him here
and so stricken, so remembering him

5. Sabrina
Music and Vocals by John Paul Sharp

7. Soothe
Music and Lyrics by John Paul Sharp

is there something I can do to help?
you shouldn’t be forced to lift that weight upon your shoulders
is there somewhere that we should go?
’cause livin’ right here is
not the way to get us goin’
how can I get you to a better place?

soothe, soothe, soothe, can you feel my thoughts?
i’m calling out to you – what do you need me to do?
i’m here to lend my heart

is there something I can do to help
you shouldn’t be forced to lift that weight upon your shoulders
can you feel my thoughts?
is there somewhere that we should go?
i’m calling out to you
’cause livin’ right here is not the way to get us goin’
what do you need me to do?
how can I get you to a better place?
i’m here to lend my heart

8.  everytime (sky)
Music and Lyrics by John Paul Sharp

ev’rytime I think about
where I am and where I’m headed
I get a feelin’ like I’m disconnected,
undirected, and overaffected
mental projections show me
all the places that I wouldn’t go
I just can’t shake those worrisome windows
I reach for help and overstep but even so
people are busy with their own lives
and have no ownership of mine
and I don’t even know what I want most of the time

ev’rytime I get a grasp on how I think the road lays out
some kinda’ song or the way the sun shines brings about the doubt
rays of light bouncin’ all over my face, hard to concentrate
traffic so noisy, can’t hear myself think
the striking question remains
what is it that I have to contribute?
and I don’t even know what I want most of the time

so I just look up at the sky
so I just look up at the sky
look up look up
sky sky sky sky
you have a choice
you have the choice
at the sky, yeah, yeah, yeah

9.  Come What May
Music and Lyrics by John Paul Sharp

come what may

no traditions and no routines
are gonna’ get me where I wanna’ be
in admission, I do believe,
whatever happen gonna’ set me free

free, free, free

God, I will do whatever it takes
God, I will do whatever it takes

come what may

i’m conditioned to walk away
when I got nothin’ left to say
it’s my mission to just not know
whichever way I was meant to go

go, go, go

God, I will do whatever it takes
God, I will do whatever it takes
come what may

come what may

10.  Second Chance
Music and Lyrics by John Paul Sharp

i’m honing in to hear within the frequency that pleases me
and ev’rybody knows the way it goes, ev’ryone deserves a second chance

I think I know which way to go, I gotta’ fix some things in me
ev’rybody knows that’s the way it goes, ev’ryone deserves a second chance

maybe if I try real hard, the second time I fall will be much softer
i’m here to face my fear to make it clear again
’cause ev’rybody knows the way it goes, ev’ryone deserves a second chance

can’t wait to see who recognizes me today, out on the street, yeah
’cause ev’rybody knows that’s the way it goes, ev’ryone deserves a second chance

maybe if I try real hard the second time I fall will be much softer
maybe if I try real hard, the second time I fall will be much softer

11. Yes, We Love
Music and Lyrics by John Paul Sharp

who’s the “we” in “yes, we can?”
who’s a part of this revolution?
I was there and you were there
and here we are, so what comes next?

when will we share
love, kids, and marriage?
tell me if i’m wrong, but aren’t we all
a part of one great family?

don’t you think it’s funny how we separate ourselves
to try and try and understand
but see, the problem is, we tear our lives apart
and we will never understand
so why don’t you just take my hand
and see if we can

love love love love love love love love
love love love love love love love love

who’s a part of “yes, we can?”
who’s a part of this revolution?
tell me if I’m wrong, but aren’t we all
a part of one great family?

12. We Simply Can
Music and Lyrics by John Paul Sharp

we simply can
no matter what anybody say
we simply can
we can do it if we try
we can do it in style
we can do it  – we can do it in style
we can do it  – we can do it in style
we simply can, we simply can
we simply can
we can do it if we try

13. When We Notice
Music and Lyrics by John Paul Sharp

life gets busier with each new day
the world is smaller and the
stars more far away
it seems like there’s not enough time to
enjoy the things we love, but
it’s up to us to make the change
and make the world a better place
for those who come

take the time to smell the roses
take the time to help your family
this is the time to engage
time to embrace the dawn of a new age of love and hope

it seems like there’s not enough time to
enjoy the things we love, but
it’s up to us to make the change
and make the world a better place for those who come

take the time to smell the roses
take the time to help your family
this is the time to engage
time to embrace the dawn of a new age of love and hope

love, hope, love, hope

15. Positive Correlation
Music and Lyrics by John Paul Sharp

a positive correlation exists between gender self-acceptance
and Diener’s subjective well-being,, la la la
and that is why counselors and educators and ev’rybody else should be
aware of gender bias in the classroom
a positive correlation was found between gender self-acceptance
and Diener’s subject well-being, la la la

16. Party (Like it’s 2012)
Music and Lyrics by John Paul Sharp

they say the end of days are comin near Christmas of 2012
well I say we put on our party hats and bring out the ring in our bells

we’re gonna’ party like it’s 2012 you can forget about a heaven or hell
’cause when it’s over, you can’t really tell, we’re gonna’ party like it’s two-thousand-

if all we know is somehow changin’. let’s enjoy the time that we have
live for today, mend your mistakes, break out your best champagne

we’re gonna’ party like it’s 2012, you can forget about a heaven or hell
’cause when it’s over, you can’t really tell, we’re gonna’ party like it’s two-thousand-

if my country stays this way, and my kids’ kids will have to pay
I think I can speak for the rest, we are ready for what is next

we’re gonna’ party like it’s 2012 you can forget about a heaven or hell
’cause when it’s over, you can’t really tell, we’re gonna’ party like it’s two-thousand-

we’re gonna’ party like it’s 2012 you can forget about a heaven or hell
’cause when it’s over, you can’t really tell, we’re gonna’ party like it’s two-thousand-twelve

17. The National Anthem
Sung by John Paul Sharp at the Spring 2009 University of Colorado Denver Graduation
Guitar performed by Sean McGowan

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro’ the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro’ the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
